Part 5: Jab Dil Miley

Armaan and Riddhima are both done their reports and it's time for their scheduled one-hour break where med exam-takers can only talk with their partners. They hang their lab coats up in their station and head for the cafeteria.

Arm - Finally! Jaan chooti...I mean fake dummies and all, insult to the well-refined brains of med students I tell you!
Rid - Tumhe kaise pata ke hum sub hi paas hojeyehge? Kuch log aise bhi hain who have no idea ke patient ke saath kiya karna hai. Agar un logon ko real patient dedeeya jae, to uss patient ka kya hoga?
Arm - Don't worry...tumhe dusra chance zuroor dengay. Main sifarish kardounga tumhari (winks).
Rid - (Rolls eyes) Main apni baat nahi karrahi thi! (they both grab a sandwich from the caf counter)
Arm - Vaisay, tumhari jaisee sari larkiyan tumhari tarhan hi hoti hain kiya?
Rid - Meri jaisee larkiyan?
Arm - You know...jassi jaisi koi naheen behen-ji types...sari tumhari tarhan hi sarphiri, driving accidents karne wali aur bheja fry kardenewali hoti hain kya?
Rid - I'm so stupid!
Arm - Wow! Sach ka samna akhir ho hee gaya!
Rid - I'm so stupid because mujhe supplies closet se vo...vo earplugs lene chahiye the...at least tumhari stupid si baatein nahin sunni partin! (their table is just nearby and Armaan spots it -and it's...you guessed it, also assigned to each pair)
Arm - Aw mannn!!
Rid - Kya hua?
Arm - No ketchup!!
Rid - Tum larke bhi na...it's always about food.
Arm - Main leke ata hoon..(twiddles his thumbs) I'm gonna go steal it from one of the other tables muhahhah. (picks up his tray and goes towards one of the tables)

(right at that moment, when Ridz is carrying her plate to their table, a guy rushes through and pushes Ridz in a way that she drops her tray. Ridz almost falls as well but ends up only knocking her elbow on the table's corner. A few seconds later, Armaan comes back)
Arm - Hey! kya hua? (surprised looking at Ridz and the spilled tray, he quickly sets his down and giver her a hand as she was still trying to balance)
Rid - Vo kuch nahin...koi jaldi main tha, aur meri tray gir gayee...it's nothing.
Arm - (concerned) Hey, you're ok? I mean kahin lagi tho nahin?
Rid - (hides her elbow) ya...everything's fine (She lets go of Armaan's hand as soon as she gets her balance back)
Arm - Kaun tha?
Rid - Koi dusra student
Arm - Aaj kal ke log na...I tell you...
Rid - jaldi main hoga...koi zuroori kaam hoga usko
Arm - Riddhima...tum bhi na...tumhe kissi ne giraya lekin phir bhi...I don't get it
Rid - Dusron ki majbouriyan bhi samajni chayein Armaan...varna ye duniya kitni ajeeb ho jayegi
Arm - (thinks 'kya? main hota to us ka pulp bana de ta...aur Riddhima')
Armaan and Riddhima both sit down and Riddhima thanks the janitor for picking up her tray.
Arm - Arey...tumhara khana to saara waste ho gaya.
Rid - I know...vo line bohot lambi hai, aur vaise bhi, mujhe bhook nahi hai.
Arm - Well... line to lambi hai, lekin main yeh mannay ko tayar bilkul nahin hoon ke 4 ghante ki intense exertion ke baad tumhe bhook nahin hain...that's a lie. (he puts his tray forward)
Rid - (looks at him)
Arm - Mujhe kaho gi kya? Come on Riddhima..meri selection itni bhi buri nahin hai (points at the tray), I mean egg salad sandwich and greek salad...it's good stuff.
Rid - Nahin, I'm fine, really.
Arm - ACHA! To aisi baat hai (Armaan gets up from his end of the bench and goes to sit on her end)
Arm - Now, for every second that you don't eat the sandwich or the salad, main tumhare aur kareeb ata jaaoonga
Rid - Kya? tumhe kya hogaya hai? Apne aap ko kya samajhte ho? Tum jo bologay sab karaynge? You're not the boss of this world Armaan (he keeps inching closer to her)
Arm - Soch lo...mujhe jo chahiye hota hai, vo main haasil karke rehta hoon.
Rid - (heart starts beating fast...'he wouldn't')
Arm - (reaches for her hand)
Rid - (pulls her hand away and quickly grabs a sandwich) Ok ok...you win...maine le liya...dekho...sandwich...in my hand (she puts it right between them in front of his face)...le liya maine...le liya.
Arm - (inches away and smiles) that's like a good girl.
Rid - (thinks 'abhi abhi yeh kiya tha...main itni nervous kyun ho gayee?')Umm vo...ketchup.
Arm - Sure (hands her the ketchup)
They're both kind of thinking of what happened just now. Ridz breaks the silence.
Rid - Thanks... khane ke liye.
Arm - Ya (clears throat)...no problem.

The instructor announces the end of their break. They go back to their stations. Once arrived, they put on their lab coats and prepare their explanation for the administrator. They have to have memorized it.

Rid - (breathing deeply and whispering to herself with her eyes closed) this is gonna be a piece of cake, it's gonna be easy...god...main kaisa mazaak karrahi hoon, mujhe yaad kaise rahega...god meri raksha karna.
Arm - (standing next to her, he obviously heard all this and looks at her with a funny expression, chuckles and then whispers to her) tum kiya jang larne jaarahi ho jo god tumhari raksha kareyga?
Rid - (opens her eyes and realizes she was whispering too loud) tum nahin samjhogay.
Arm - Come on (grabs her hand and takes it to his heart) you and I both know ke yeh sab bolna chikh chikh pak pak tumhare bain haat ka khel hai...wait dayen haath ka ya bayen haath ka...(he's still holding on to her hand)
Rid - kya...haath, mera haath...
Arm - dekha...it took me only 2 seconds to divert your attention..you're absolutely ready...tum bohot zada soch rahi ho iss ke baray mein.
Rid - (thinks 'it's true...main vaaki mein overthink karrahi hoon...I'm ready for this!')
Arm - lekin Riddhima..
Rid - kya?
Arm - (whispers again)mera haath tho choro...varna log kya samjheingay?
Rid - (she'd completely forgotten, she takes her hand away from his)

They both give their speech about the full diagnosis and treatment to the administrator and they do really well. Then the administrator leaves and they start packing up.

Arm - Good job yaar! I didn't think we would be this good!
Rid - You too...Good job, I'm so happy, so relieved...

Armaan goes to put all the things away in the supply closet. Ridzi finishes up taking down their lab materials and heads outside.There she meets up with Anjali and she sees Raj.

Rid - Diii!! (hugs her) I'm so happy! It went so well!!
Anj - (stands there, doesn't hug ridz back)
Rid - kya hua di?
Anj - Sunita ne sab kuch kharab kar diya! She didn't memorize the whole thing! Aur uss ki vaja se, I looked so bad
Raj - Anji, yaar, it's ok, results ache hi ayenge tum dekhna.

Sunita comes.

Sun - Hi Raj, hi ridzi, hi anji.
Anj - (turns towards Ridz facing her back to Sunita) tu chal rahi hai Ridz?
Rid - Hi Sunita. Umm di...vo main...main gari main ayee thi.
Anj - Ridz hum vo driver se vapes mangwalenge...just hurry up (she leaves)
Rid - Sunita, kya hua? Di ne bataya ke aap memorize karna bhool gaye the
Sun - What? (sunita's confused) Main? Maine to apna part achi tarha se memorize kya tha...vo to anji expected me to know her part too...khair choro is baat ko...tumhara kaisa raha?
Rid - It was good.
Raj - Mera milaya hua partner kaisa raha huh?
Rid - Nakchara...but he knows what he's doing!
Raj - That's the spirit! Anyways, I won't be seeing you for a long time now...
Rid - kyun? kaheen jaane ka erada hai?
Raj - Ya actually...vo main Canada mein internship karna chahraha hoon..and they've agreed to interview me, let's hope I do really well on this thing. To khair, maine party rakhi hai for all my friends, and you and Anji are invited.
Rid - That's great Raj! All the best, aur mein tumhari party main zuroor aoungi.
Anj - (screams from near the motorbike) come on already Ridz, mujhe der ho rahi hai!

Armaan comes back and sees that she's gone. He heads outside too thinking 'vo bahar hi hogee' and then sees her. But as soon as he starts walking that way, he sees her getting on the motorbike and leaving.

Will he ever see her again?
